FIREFIGHTERS were called out to a suspected arson attack on a car last night.

Crews received reports of the incident in Boundary Street, Halliwell, shortly before 9.15pm.

They arrived to discover a Vauxhall Corsa with its front and back end on fire.

Firefighters from Bolton North Fire Station put out the fire, which has left the vehicle written off out, and passed the incident on to police.

It is the second suspected arson attack in the area in less than 24 hours, after a black Audi A3 was set on fire in nearby Maria Street in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

On that occasion, the blaze burnt through the vehicle's handbrake cable, leaving it at risk of rolling down a hill.

However, firefighters managed to tackle the fire and secure the car.
