THE WRITER of the world famous Horrible Histories books is bringing his new play to Bolton.

Terry Deary will present the opening night of The 11th Hour at Bolton Central Library next month, and will spend some time after the show doing a question and answer and signing books.

The 72-year-old is the writer of more than 200 books, selling more than 25 million copies in over 40 languages across the world. He is best know for his work on Horrible Histories, including the Terrible Tudors and The Vile Victorians, which helped children across the country learn about history.

The books would later be adapted into a number of different TV shows, with a popular sketch-show version released in 2009 for CBBC and then rebooted in 2015.

His play, The 11th Hour, is set in 1918 at the end of the First World War and tells the story of two soldiers, one German and one British, who meet and begin exchanging stories of their experiences during the war.

There is just one hour left before the Great War ends and the two soldiers know they must kill each other. But before they do, amidst the chaos of war, their shared humanity becomes a revelation for them both.

Following the opening night, presented by Mr Deary on Monday, November 19, the show will run at the Le Mans Crescent venue for another six nights, culminating in a final showing on Saturday, November 24.

The show is being produced alongside Arts Council England.

Tickets for the show are £5, but a booking fee will also apply.
