YET another disjointed rant from Ian Greenhalgh “We are turning our back on our biggest market – the EU” (October 8).

No, we are not, Mr Greenhalgh. Even with the Orwellian restriction placed upon it by the EU, the UK exports far more to countries outside the EU than it does to countries in it.

Like all others, the EU will be falling over itself for a trade deal with the UK.

The Germans in particular will still want to sell their Volkswagens, BMWs, etc, so the United Kingdom is not "turning its back on the EU" and the EU would be most wise not to turn its back on the UK either.

Mr Greenhalgh clearly proves that he is very much deluded, because he clearly implies with his patronising remarks that people who voted to take back control of their lives and country from the EU were, by and large, voting for a return of the British Empire and the Victorian era.

People voted leave "among other things" for more freedoms and freedom of choice, which no longer being shackled to the EU will give them.

He then bangs on about “no free movement” means we could be, “shorter of doctors, nurses”. What piffle!

Once the country is free from the EU it will be able to control more effectively who comes in and who doesn’t.

He continues to inflict further damage to his pathetic argument by saying that “the emerging markets will be China, Russia, India and North America”.

That’s why, Mr Greenhalgh, the UK will be better off outside the EU in order that it may take full advantage of these, “emerging markets.” As the EU is not an emerging market any more, but a declining one.

He then continues by claiming that during the referendum “the leave team lied”. Oh, and the government didn’t?

It misappropriated millions upon millions of pounds of hard-earned taxpayers’ money to spread fear and lies among the electorate in order to intimidate them in to voting to remain.

For good measure, he trots out the bog-standard ‘remoaner’ fear and misinformation, claiming that medicines “will run short”.

There’s lots more detritus in this letter that I could continue to use to put the proverbial ‘boot in’, but I think Mr Greenhalgh has done a pretty good job of shooting himself in the foot, without me highlighting more nonsense that would get him shot the other foot, too.

But I must include this though. The only thing that I actually agree with Mr Greenhalgh on, was where he stated, “Let me retire to Bedlam”, to which I would say, “Amen to that, it’s certainly long overdue”.
