BOLTON South East MP Yasmin Qureshi has called for a debate in parliament to discuss how to tackle hate crime.
Ms Qureshi told the House of Commons: "There has been a record number of Islamophobic hate crimes, a disproportionate number of which have been attacks on women with headscarves or on gentlemen with beards.
"We have seen the rise of populism and nationalism, with Muslims often being the target."
Leader of the House Andrea Leadson encouraged her to raise the matter at the next Justice questions in a few weeks time.
Ms Leadsom said the issue was "incredible important".
