IT has been dubbed the hottest curry ever sold in a UK supermarket - so hot it comes with a safety warning. So, naturally, we had to try it.

Morrisons’ Flaming Fiery Phaal hit the shelves earlier this week following complaints that the supermarket giant’s previous hottest curry was nowhere near hot enough.

The Bolton News:

Their latest attempt boasts an eight chilli-rated curry - two tiers above the last one- and contains scorpion chillies, as well as naga and green chillies.

So, as someone who is partial to spicy food, I volunteered to take on the challenge of eating one - so that you don’t have to.

After finding a store with some still in stock in Harwood, I headed back to the office to see whether the curry lived up to the hype.

I opened the packaging and was faced with single huge red chilli staring up at me. That and the severe warning on the box seemed like warnings to steer clear.

The Bolton News:

But, armed with napkins and an emergency glass a milk, I sat down to embark on my challenge.

As the first mouthful entered my mouth, I immediately knew it was the hottest curry I had ever tasted.

I soldiered on. The second and third mouthfuls weren’t quite so bad. I continued with the foolish belief that I might be able to finish the lot.

However, it wasn’t long before my body began feeling the effects of what I was eating. The heat gradually built up with each mouthful, and my eyes begin to water, my nose started running, and I could feel nascent beads of sweat developing on my forehead. Oh, and my mouth was on fire.

The Bolton News:

Several mouthfuls in, our photographer Gus Sivyer asked me to describe how the curry tasted. “Hot?” was all I could really say in response. It’s fair to say that other than an excess of pepper, I wasn’t really get many flavours coming through.

In the end, I managed to finish half of it, and would like to think I could have tackled the rest had I put my mind to it.

Overall, the curry is definitely a must-try for those who love spicy food and fancy a challenge, but if you prefer to relax while eating, a chicken tikka masala may be more your sort of thing.
