JOBSEEKERS can get a boost with free clothes and skills training as part of a new scheme.

The Working Wardrobe programme, run by Bolton at Home, is based at Crompton Place in the town centre.

It aims to help those who are unemployed but have an upcoming interview for a paid job.

Each two-hour session is by appointment only – from 10am-5pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays - and entitles clients to choose and keep a full outfit including accessories and footwear, which come solely from public donations.

One-to-one coaching for interview preparation is available, along with confidence and skills building and guidance on how to overcome personal barriers.

“We all know the importance of making a great first impression and feeling good in what we are wearing, especially for an interview, is a key factor for this,” said Dawn Juson, a member of the programme.

“However, suitable clothing isn’t always readily accessible to everybody and this shouldn’t be a barrier for people who are trying to progress further in their lives.

“We welcome people through our doors from all different walks of life, backgrounds and circumstances and it’s a privilege for the team to get to know each individual and offer a positive and uplifting experience that will hopefully remain with them for many years to come."

The scheme is in partnership with Johnson Cleaners, which supports the staff at Working Wardrobe.

Paula Wood, centre manager at Crompton Place Shopping Centre, expressed her gratitude to the Working Wardrobe team for its unwavering efforts. “Transitioning back into work isn’t always that straightforward for everyone and it can be difficult to know where to turn for help. But we now have this phenomenal service in Bolton that is changing lives.

“Hearing the many success stories is very humbling and inspiring. We would like to say, ‘thank you’ to the Working Wardrobe and all parties involved in the initiative for enabling people across town to get back on their feet.”

Deputy Leader of Bolton Council, Cllr Ebrahim Adia, said: “This is a scheme that is making a real and positive difference to people’s lives. The Working Wardrobe helps get people into work by giving them the best possible chance of making a good impression in a job interview.

“The initiative helps to build up people’s confidence and self-worth and we are really pleased to support this Team Bolton project.”
