BACK in 1979 a teenager from Horwich was turning heads.
At the time, the Bolton Evening News reported that Judith Atkinson, 18, of The Strand, had every reason to smile after being crowned the new English Carnival Queen.
Judith who was a trainee hairdresser at a Bolton salon, had previously been crowned Horwich Carnival Queen.
She won her latest award after a beauty parade and a personality interview at Aspull Civic Centre, which qualified her for a place in the Princess of Great Britain finals.
In the May of 1981 she won Press Gala Girl, at Rockerfellas, Bolton with a prize of a weekend in Amsterdam £25 cash and a £50 clothing voucher. Diane Gale, 18, from Thorn Lea Close, Heaton, was runner up and Deborah Worrall, 18, of Tong Road, Little Lever, finished in third place.
She also won a number of beauty titles during her career including in the following years as Miss Port Sunlight, Miss Ideal Homes, Holiday Princess of Great Britain (Northern), Miss Weston-Super-Mare and Miss Quaffers in Stockport.
So where is Judith now?
