BOLTON actor Maxine Peake has written a piece for The Guardian about her political upbringing and writing to a director to appear in the new film Peterloo.
Peake, known for her TV roles in Silk, Shameless and this year's The Bisexual, wrote about sending a postcard to Mike Leigh asking him to consider her for a role in Peterloo.
She explains her grandfather had an important role in her political upbringing and told her about the Peterloo Massacre.
Peake also talks about joining the Labour party for the first time to vote for Corbyn saying "socialism is on the cards again".
Peterloo premiered at the London Film Festival yesterday and is released in the UK on November 2.
