COMICS Paddy McGuinness and Peter Kay are among the record number of Bolton TV stars in the running for a gong at the National Television Awards 2019.

Dermot O’Leary will be hosting the award ceremony, described as television’s biggest night with the best in entertainment, comedy and drama celebrated.

All the winners are voted for by the viewers and this year there are 14 categories.

Paddy has been nominated for TV Presenter and his show Take Me Out for The Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award, which was named after the legendary entertainer in tribute to his 75-year career in showbiz and celebrates the best in British primetime telly.

Peter Kay’s Car Share is up for Best Comedy as is The Keith and Paddy Show — where Paddy and Keith Lemon recreate scenes from Hollywood blockbusters.

Also shortlisted for the category is Motherland starring Diane Morgan, from Farnworth.

Other local stars hoping for an award include Danny Jones, for TV Judge, with his The Voice Kids also nominated for the Best Talent Show.

The Chase, featuring Bolton’s Jenny Ryan, is up for Quiz Show.

Jenny, who hails from Horwich, still quizzes every Monday evening for the Bob Smithy in the Bolton Premier Quiz League. Fellow chaser Anne Hegerty, who lives in Manchester, plays alongside Jenny on Monday evenings.

Both women are past winners of the league’s Brain of Bolton competition.

Bancroft, which was filmed in Bolton, with scenes inside Bolton town hall and in Le Mans Crescent, is up for New Drama with its star Sarah Parish nominated for her portrayal of DCI Elizabeth Bancroft in the hit series.

And judging by Twitter, Danny, singer of boy-band McFly, is already attracting quite a few votes.

The awards, now in their 24the year, are screened live on television, with this year’s ceremony will be remembered for David Attenborough’s rousing speech about the blue planet.

The award ceremony takes place at The O2 London on January 22.
