PLANS to revamp a community centre and bring it back into use have been approved.

Proposals would see a new lobby and reception area built, and a carpark extended to increase the number of parking spaces from eight to 18 at Farnworth Community and Youth Centre, in King Street.

The application was put forward by Bolton Council which owns the site and is aiming to bring it back to full use.

As a result of the plans, one cherry tree on the west boundary of the building will be removed, along with a hedgerow.

Currently, the former ambulance station is only partially used by parent and child groups, a nursery and a youth club, but if the plans are implemented the council hopes it will be inhabited by other parties, including healthcare consultants and a string of other youth groups.

The application also includes plans to create a covered play area and a brick pram store adjacent to the current building.

At a Bolton Council planning meeting yesterday, the proposals were unanimously passed.
