THREE men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a house was set on fire in Leigh.

Officers executed warrants yesterday morning in Leigh and Tyldesley and arrested three men aged 19, 22 and 37.

They remain in custody where they will be questioned by officers, said police last night.

On Saturday, a 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

In the early hours of Tuesday October 16, a couple were in their home in Montreal Street when their windows were smashed. A flammable liquid was set alight and then thrown through the windows, said police.

The couple managed to escape the flames but the woman – who is in her 60s — was taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition. It is believed she has suffered life-changing injuries.
