THE best and worst performing secondary schools in Bolton have been revealed based on this summer's GCSE exams.
The government has released its provisional league tables showing on well the borough's school performed in the examinations in a number of measures.
Overall children make below average progress in Bolton's secondary schools.

Figures released by the department for education show that 39.6 per cent of young people left school with strong grades in English and maths, which was in line with the national average and slightly above Bolton's score last year.
The numbers who scored a 9-4 — with four being roughly equivalent to a C — stood at 61 per cent, higher than the national average of 59.1 per cent but lower than the North West average of 62.6 per cent.
Bolton's Attainment 8 score of 44.5 was lower the national average of state schools standing at 46.4.
Attainment 8 is an average score across eight subjects taken at GCSE, which includes English and maths. The higher the score, the better.
This is the second year the government has published progress scores.
A Bolton Council spokesman said: "While recent changes to GCSEs make it difficult to draw direct comparisons, it is encouraging to see an improvement from last year and that attainment levels are moving closer in line with regional and national averages.
"We are pleased to note progress in Attainment 8 scores as well as an increase in the number of pupils achieving a level 5 or higher in English and maths.
"These improvements are a direct result of the hard work of teachers, pupils and parents and a sure sign we are moving in the right direction."
The department for education will release the final figures of all schools, include independent schools, in January in the annual performance tables.
