THE photographic sleuths among our readers failed to come up with any correct guesses as to where last week’s mystery picture was taken.

I know a couple of readers complained that we normally give you a hint, such as a date or location, but we thought it would increase the ability of members of the public to put their heads together and come up with more educated answers/guesses.

However, no one succeeded in identifying that it is from our files of November 13, 1953 and shows second year students from Bolton School of Art, sketching outside an antiques shop in Newport Street. The students were apparently doing a tour of the town’s antiques’ shops with life master Mr J.C. Wardle (who we omitted in last week’s newspaper!), as part of their general knowledge mission.

This week we have decided to make it a little easier for our readers by asking you to identify when and where the lights were on in these mills and in which part of Bolton this shot was taken. The nearest will have bragging rights and will be named!
