A PENSIONER has been taken to hospital after an incident in Farnworth.

Emergency services were called to Worsley Road, close to the M61 motorway bridge, shortly after 9.50am this morning to concerns for the welfare of a man in his 70s.

Firefighters say the man became unwell at the wheel of his car.

He has been taken in an ambulance to Royal Bolton Hospital. The extent of his injuries are not yet known.

An air ambulance was also sent to the scene.

Following the incident, Worsley Road was closed in both directions, but has since reopened.
