IT is good to see things happening at the former Toys R Us store in Bolton.

The large site has remained empty since the toy giant folded in March and the building has remained empty.

Independent car dealership Arnold Clark is now due to open its doors towards the end of December and work is already under way to convert the former retail unit into a car showroom.

As well as bringing a large site back into use, the opening of the business in the town is expected to create 45 jobs. It also comes at a time when car dealerships are enjoying success in Bolton.

It follows the major renovation of Bristol Street Motors and the opening of Farnell Jaguar LandRover next to it.

Family-run Swansway Honda is also expanding its site in Folds Road and RRG Group built a new Skoda dealership at the junction of Topp Way and St Peter’s Way.

There are many ways for people to buy cars today, whether it is new or used, on finance or a variety of lease plans.

Buying a car is still one of the biggest purchases most people make and it is reassuring that there is this confidence to invest in Bolton.

And, as well as national and international brands, there are independent and family-run dealerships that also boost the town’s economy.

And having such a large landmark site being occupied again sends a reassuring message across the town.
