A NEW play written by two members of the On the Go Theatre Company commemorating the end of the First World War is to be performed at a number of venues around Bolton.
Flanders to Fish, written by Josie Byrne and Kath Bateman, starts in 1914 when two local lads, Len and Billy, enlist and everyone around them is affected. The story follows the lad’s journey to the inevitable stench of the trenches and finally to their return home to a much changed life in 1918.
On the Go, formed six years ago by members of Artbeat - a group for the over 50s with a keen interest in drama and theatre which met at Bolton’s Octagon Theatre - has produced and performed a number of plays based on local history. The group rehearse weekly at the Octagon Theatre.
With the centenary of Armistice Day approaching, the group decided it was important to produce a play for the occasion.
Flanders to Fish will be performed at Blackrod Sport and Community Centre at 3pm on Saturday; at Horwich Community Centre on Saturday, November 10 at 3pm; at St Andrews Church Over Hulton on Armistice Day at 2pm; Senior Solutions at Sacred Heart, Westhoughton on Tuesday, November 13 at 2pm and Westhoughton LIbrary at 10am on Thursday, November 15.
