MARY Seacole House in Westhoughton are planning a series of events to raise money for BBC Children in Need with the help and support of the community.

The residents, support workers, occupational therapists and mental health nurses will raise money for the charity which is close to their hearts.

Callum and Anthony, of Mary Seacole House, completed a 14.2-mile sponsored walk and raised nearly £200 for Children in Need.

Team leader, Paul Jones, will do a 20-mile hike from Westhoughton to Oswaldtwistle, which includes an overnight camp.

The support workers at Mary Seacole House will complete a sponsored walk from the house in Brancker Street to Montgomery House in Radcliffe which is also owned by Northern Healthcare. They will then continue walking to their Head Office in Eccles.

The team will also be doing a pre-loved sale of clothes and household items as well as fundraising in local supermarkets by packing bags for customers.

Kate Knight, Service Manager, and Victoria Graham, Occupational Therapist said: “It was really exciting to see our residents getting involved with planning and participating in activities with support of staff member who have gone above and beyond to help raise funds for such a brilliant cause, it’s great to be part of an organisation that is big enough to make a difference but small enough to care.”

Northern Healthcare opened Mary Seacole House in October 2016. It has 22 fully-furnished luxury flats, provides 24-hour support and occupational therapy to its residents.

The company provides recovery-focused 24-hour supported accommodation, which provides accommodation for individuals who have mental health or learning disabilities with facilities tailored to the resident’s needs.

The money raised by Mary Seacole House is going to BBC Children in Need. The charity supports many projects in the UK who work with disadvantaged children and young people.

The money will help young people such as those living in poverty, being disabled or ill, or experiencing distress, neglect or trauma.

Full details of the fundraisers are still to be confirmed.
