TONGE with Haulgh and Breightmet's Labour councillors came together last weekend to put poppies up along Bury Road which runs between their two wards.

The poppies were funded by the local area forum's delegated funds, with the payments going directly to the British Legion.

Mayor of Bolton Cllr Elaine Sherrington, said: “2018 marks one hundred years since the end of the First World War, and to mark this occasion we have affixed around 100 poppies to lampposts along the length of Bury Road, one of Bolton’s biggest arterial routes, in order to try to bring greater awareness to the significance of this year’s Remembrance Service on November 11.”

Cllr John Byrne, for Breightmet, added: “The poppy signifies remembrance for all those who have died in conflicts, and we wanted to make a visual statement, whilst also contributing to the great work that the British legion is doing, especially in this centenary year.”
