A STUNNING river of poppies is flowing through a Farnworth school to commemorate the end of the First World War.
Year 3 pupils created hundreds of the symbolic flowers which cascade from a cross in the entrance of Highfield Primary School, and continue down the corridor walls.
Teacher Amanda Campion said: "It is important that that we remember that we wouldn't be who we are today if so many people had not died for us in the First World War - and wars and conflicts since.
"The school's Remembrance art project was a good way of helping the children learn about it."
Parents and grandparents got involved and visited the Marsh Lane school to help make the felt and tissue paper poppies. One pupil's grandfather, who had served in the Second World War, was one of them.
"It was an absolutely lovely afternoon," said Mrs Campion.
School caretaker, Dean Pittilla, also got involved and created and engraved a beautiful wooden cross for the cascade of poppies to flow from.
As part of the project, the children had been encouraged to bring in family photographs of relatives who had seen war service, and share information they found out about their experiences.
The photographs are included in the poppy display.
The whole school also took part in a special assembly on Friday, in advance of the Armistice Centenary this Sunday.
