CHRIS Green says he supports local democracy and decision making, but what a shame he didn’t support this when Lancashire Council made the decision to ban fracking.
This was then overturned by the Conservative Government’s home secretary, Saavid Javid, which was an affront to local democracy and decision making.
Now we have fracking in this country for the first time.
This is at the time a deeply concerning report from the
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change which said we have about 12 to 15 years to avoid a rise in temperature caused by fossil fuels which will make life on this planet for humans and animals very precarious.
Although Mr Green says he supports local democracy, the bottom line is that he voted for fracking including under our national parks.
It is also fair to say he supported the decision to overturn a democratic local government decision to ban fracking in Lancashire.
Only last month, leading climate scientist James Hanson accused the government of ignoring scientific evidence and “going full throttle ahead with the worst fossil fuels” such as fracking and tar sands.
The decision to allow fracking given the scientific evidence is playing with the lives and future of our children and grandchildren.
