A MARATHON runner has stepped up to help people keep fit.

Melonie Crompton will find time between training for her ninth marathon this year to start the new Over Hulton Running Club, open to people of any level.

The mother of two will compete in the Manchester Marathon in April, 2019, but was approached by John Bullen, leader of the Over Hulton Community Group, about starting a new group in December.

Mrs Crompton explained: “I was looking to set up a buggy running group which John helped with and then he said there had been interest in a running group for the area - which I was quite excited to lead.

“I’ve been coaching with Lostock AC for a few years although I’ve had time off to have 2 babies in that time.

“We will be catering for all levels of fitness — many of those interested haven’t run before so I’m going to introduce them to a programme that should get them running continuously for thirty minutes over eight weeks.

“I’m excited to be coaching the first running club in this area — offering an opportunity for people to get some exercise, get fitter than they believed possible and meet other like minded people.”

The club will be supported by Bolton Council’s sports development officers, who help to fund and organise activity groups across the borough.

The first run for members of the group will be held on Saturday, December 1, at 9.30am. Anyone interested in taking part should meet at Cutacre car park on Salford Road.
