Special tour along The Nile

THE refurbished Bolton’s Egypt gallery is surely one of the jewels in the town’s crown.

If you have not had the chance to visit or what to find out more, a guided tour takes place on Tuesday.

Walk along The Nile and see the different creatures that inspired the nation’s religion before journeying to the Underworld and seeing the tomb of Tuthmose III. Don’t forget to spot the famous fake!

There is no need to book and the tour is free. Simply arrive on time at 2pm. The tour lasts around an hour.

The tours will continue every Tuesday at the same time up, finishing on Tuesday, December 11.

Christmas Lights switch on

ONE of the biggest events this week, possibly of the year, is the Christmas Light switch on.

The glitzy event is on Thursday evening and special guest Alan Halsall (Tyrone Dobbs in Coronations Street) will be flicking the switch.

If previous years are anything to go by there will be a host of fun acts beforehand and a firework display as the lights go on.

See it Thursday from 5pm in Victoria Square.

Mad king of the theatre on film

DISCOVER The Madness of George III with the first ever live broadcast of the play from Nottingham Playhouse.

Written by Alan Bennett and featuring Mark Gatiss (Sherlock, Wolf Hall) the award-winning play will be screened in The Light Cinema, The Market Place on Tuesday.

It starts at 7pm. Book tickets at bolton.lightcinemas.co.uk online.

Ghost stories tour

IF BLACK cats, ghouls and spooky stories are up your street sign up for a ghost walk.

On Thursday evening Smithills Hall is hosting a ghostly tour to give an insight into the history and spectral tales of the hall.

The Friends of Smithills Hall lead the tour.

Tickets are £8 for adults and £7 for concessions.

Book in advance by calling Bolton Museum 332211 (card payments) or the hall on 332377 (cash).

The tour starts at 7pm and lasts an hour and a half.

Make your own ring

STEP out of town and you will find a silver-smithing workshop in Ramsbottom. .

Noctua hosts workshops where you can make from scratch your very own silver rings.

Participants will size their rings themselves, measure the silver needed and file and shape the ring.

Places are limited, book at noctua.co.uk online. The workshop costs £55, silver and all tools are provided. The next is on Wednesday at Stitch Studio, Bridge St, Ramsbottom.
