CARE staff have been recognised at an annual awards ceremony.
The Hospice in your Care Home awards, which is run by Wigan and Leigh Hospice, honoured the work done by staff and homes for residents in end of life care.
Richmond House, in Leigh, scooped four accolades including Manager of the Year and Home of the Year.
The Mitchell Street home has now won both titles three years in a row.
They shared the latter title with Belong Atherton as judges could not separate the two homes.
Rosebridge Court, in Hindley, also collected four accolades, sharing the Manager of the Year award with Richmond House, and the Most Improved Home.
Richmond House resident Barbara Wheeler presented the Staff Member of the Year prize to Julie Cross from Belong Atherton.
Barbara said: “This award is extremely important as it reflects the thoughts and feeling of service users and highlights those who have touched so many.
“It recognises the qualities we look for in the people who we entrust to look after those most important in our lives.”
Karen McGrady, the former manager of Deanwood Manor in Orrell, won the Special Recognition Award. She now works for Bedford Care Home.
Lorraine Scholey accepted Richmond House’s award for Home of the Year.
She said: “This is an award for everybody who works at Richmond House – they should be really proud of themselves.”
Nicola Johnstone picked up Belong Atherton’s Home of the Year award.
She added: “I have to say being involved in this project is well worth it.
“I’m so proud of Belong Atherton. We have achieved so much but winning the award is also down to Debbie, Monica and the Hospice In Your Care Home team.”
The hospice’s Hospice In Your Care Home works with nursing home staff to provide training and give them skills and knowledge to provide end of life care.
It delivers education programmes on how to communicate in difficult and distressing situations such as talking to residents or families about a patient’s future care needs.
