The Three Towns in Concert
St Joseph’s Hall Leigh,
MUSICAL Director Rod Dakin has assembled a very entertaining group of singers to present this varied programme of songs from the musicals, opera, classical and pop – and scores on every level.
Accompanied by talented pianist Nicola Dagnall, the choir take turns in taking centre stage with some wonderful solo performances and beautiful harmonies in the ensemble pieces.
Highlights include a stirring rendition of "Zadok the Priest", a very humorous version of !The Alto’s Lament! by Fran Davies, the stunning "Strahlender Mond" by Victoria Goulden, and the hair-raising finale of songs from !Les Miserables".
But solo performances from Colin Magenty — "How to Handle a Woman", Jean Forrester with "Funiculi Funicula", Winston Carmichael — "Going Home" and Ken Rees for "If I Were a Rich Man" are just as good.
Add to the mix tributes to the bands "Queen" and "The Beach Boys" and you have a great evening of song held together by a charming and witty compere.
The group also give excerpts from Gilbert and Sullivan’s "The Mikado", which they will be performing from May 14 to 18 May 2019 to celebrate their 50th anniversary.
