A WOMAN died aged just 40 after being seriously ill from the effects of drug use.
Claire Mary Louise Monique Fernandez was suffering from pneumonia and cellulitis in her leg — a type of deep skin infection.
She was admitted to the Royal Bolton Hospital after feeling unwell and having a poor appetite on November 12.
Despite treatment, she deteriorated rapidly and was moved to the intensive care unit and died a day later.
An inquest into her death was opened and adjourned at Bolton Coroner’s Court yesterday.
Area coroner Alan Walsh said the death was believed to be a result of the effects of intravenous drug use, cellulitis and septicaemia. He said there have been no police investigations into Miss Fernandez’s death and that the circumstances were not suspicious.
The court also heard that Miss Fernandez, of Buckley Lane, Farnworth, had a history of heroin use and that she was involved with the mental health team in her area.
Mr Walsh adjourned the inquest until 6 March 2019.
