AMAZON's MAN3 fulfilment centre is one of 17 across the UK

It is the newest one and the most technologically advanced site for the company in the whole of Europe.

This is thanks to the large amount of automation which has been built into the site, like the moving shelves.

Amazon was not always the web giant it is now. It began life in 1994 as Cadabra, this was changed because it was misheard as cadaver.

Amazon was founded with the ambition of becoming the world's biggest bookstore but has grown far beyond that dream.

Jeff Bezos founded the company and overtook Bill Gates (Microsoft founder) as the richest person in the world this year, he was dubbed the "richest man in modern history" by Forbes magazine when his net worth grew to $150 billion.

The company got its smile logo in 2000 with the arrow going from A to Z.

In 2011 Amazon employed 30,000 people in America, growing to 180,000 in 2016. By the end of 2017 it had 566,000 staff worldwide.

For the first time this year Amazon opened a physical shop to the public. Dubbed Amazon Go it opened in Seattle and customers need to have the Amazon Go app in order to enter.

Using futuristic technology the shop sees customers take items of shelves and charges their accounts.

Amazon reportedly has plans for 3,000 of these stores in the US by 2021.
