SMELLY, old shoes can provide a boost for Cancer Research UK.

Wynsors World of Shoes in Bolton is collecting worn out shoes as part of a recycling drive and for the next three months 100 per cent of the profits from it will go to the cancer charity.

Wynsors in Blackburn Road has been recycling shoes for a year and collected 497kg of old footwear, about the same weight as five baby elephants! In the past 10 per cent of profits have gone to Cancer Research UK.

Melanie Wolstonholme, store manager at Wynsors Bolton, said: “We are so pleased to have the opportunity to donate to such an incredible charity. Cancer Research is a charity which is close to so many colleagues.

“We always try to encourage good recycling habits in store and have seen a fantastic response from our customers since we started collecting old shoes."

Residents of Bolton are being encouraged to donate as many of their worn-out, smelly, old shoes to be recycled during the months of November, December and January whilst Wynsors’ donation boost is live

Polly Williams, local fundraising manager at Cancer Research, said: “We are so grateful for the donations that we receive from Wynsors’ recycling initiative and the fact that they’re cutting down on waste in the process is just fantastic."
