EMERGENCY services were called to assist with an oil and fuel spillage after a car collided with a central reservation.

The driver of a silver BMW M Series sportscar had struck the barrier, with the impact resulting in the fuel tank and brakes being damaged.

Fire crews from Atherton were called to the incident in Salford Road/A6, Over Hulton, shortly before 9pm last night.

Watch manager Ian Gardner said: "The bottom of the fuel tank and brakes had been ripped off of the car which caused a lot of oil and fluid to pour onto the road.

"We sealed off the drains to prevent the oil from entering the system, and we made the vehicle safe."

Crews were in attendance for about one hour. Highways England and police officers also attended.
