A MAN accused of molesting two young girls at his Morris Green flat has sworn to a jury that he is innocent.

Giving evidence in his own defence at Bolton Crown Court David Fielding, who is a haemophiliac and has undergone a liver transplant, swore on his organ donor’s memory that he is telling the truth.

He told a jury: “When you are given the gift of life you appreciate it. You do not insult the donors or donors’ families.”

Fielding, a 62-year-old grandfather, denies kidnapping two girls, aged seven and 10, sexually assaulting them, raping the youngest girl and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

In the witness box, Fielding told how the girls, who he did not know, were playing outside his home on May 29 and wanted to see his signed photograph of former Coronation Street star Michelle Keegan.

He said he had bought the photograph of the bikini-clad actress for £70 at an auction, hung it on his wall and had kissed it in the past.

In their evidence the girls said they had seen him kiss the picture but Fielding denied he had done so in front of the children.

Fielding denied he had invited the two girls into his Georgina Court flat, but they had followed him when he went to get the picture.

Once inside, he said he did not stop them wandering around his home before they left.

“I just expected them to see the picture and leave,” he said. “After that they were just nosying around.”

Fielding told the court he could not explain why the girls had made accusations against him.

He said: “It is pure fantasy — complete lies.

“These two have colluded. They have ruined a decent person’s life and devastated my family.”

He added: “When you accuse somebody of something as bad as this, you can’t go back on it.

He believes they made up the accusations because they knew they should not have gone inside a stranger’s home.

“I know now that they were in massive trouble for even going in my flat,” he said.

“The only way out of that is ... they’ve come up with this complete and utter rubbish.”

The trial continues.
