A WOMAN who miraculously survived a mysterious illness has fought back from death to run her own hair salon, and says the experience has made her more determined.

Lauren Davies, then aged 19, had been on holiday in Mexico in 2016 and came home to Bolton feeling a little unwell, only for things to quickly get worse with bouts of sickness and headaches.

Days later doctors told her that both of her kidneys had failed, informing her parents there was only a 50/50 chance of survival.

Things seemed to be spiralling out of control, but a last minute cocktail of medication brought her back from the brink.

Now, the 21-year-old has been running her own salon, All Dolled Up, on Chorley New Road, since January, and she says her brush with death has changed her.

“I quit my job and decided that I wanted to have my own business,” Miss Davies said. “I moved away from all the bad things in my life and it put things into perspective.”

Her mum, Lisa Davies, said doctors began calling her daughter a “miracle” after she survived, and that she had been told they were only half an hour away from administering emergency life support.

She added: “When they said she could come home I ran home first and put the Christmas tree up just in time for her to get back.”

After deciding she would make a change in her life, Miss Davies was invited to the opening of the Hydra Clinic, on Chorley New Road, run by her friend Gill Whittle.

It inspired Miss Davies to open her own business, All Dolled Up, in the same building, and the pair have been joined by two other friends Hannah Taylor and Alex Halliday, who run a nail parlour and an eye lash salon respectively.

The group share a number of clients due to the complementary nature of their businesses and have decided to deck their building out in Christmas decorations for a joint party held on Monday, December 3.

As well as celebrating Christmas and the opening of the group’s various salons, the event will allow them to raise money for Bolton Hospice, through a raffle held on the night.

Miss Taylor said she was looking forward to the party. “I’m nervous but I’m also really excited,” she said. “It should be a lot of fun and it will be good to raise money for the hospice.”
