TALENTED Erin Williamson really is a dancing queen.

The five-year-old who has severe hearing loss is proving to be a hit on the dance floor, winning a cluster of top trophies.

Her achievement is made even more remarkable because she has to take out her hearing aid while dancing because the music is too loud, and uses the vibrations of the floor to time her moves.

Erin, who attends St Mary's RC School in Horwich, was diagnosed with bi-lateral hearing loss when she was born.

Recently she competed at the European Champions at the glamorous Blackpool Tower ballroom, winning the fast and slow categories in the Under-Six as well as well as the Rock 'n' Roll category with her sister Katie, who is seven-years-old. She also won the under-six Starter of the Year at the Rose Club in Hindley, which was won by her sister, two years ago.

Those trophies are on top of previous competitions she has won.

Erin has been dancing for two years but competing for just seven months.

Proud mum, Sam said: "Erin uses the vibrations on the dance floor and her timing is really good.

"All she hears is muffled sounds when she is dancing so needs visual teaching and can lip read. She started dancing at the age of two after watching her sister.

"She loves dancing, and dances in pairs with her sister."

She added: "Erin has never been treated any differently because of the condition, we do not see it as a disability. When people look we talk to them about it."

Sam said: "Erin loves dancing and she is very confident but it is on her own terms.

"Katie is a very good in technical. They are both very supportive of each other."

Erin attends Twizzles Dance and Fitness in Horwich.

Linda Hughes, from the studio, said: "I saw Erin's talent really early on when I started teaching her. She has the personality that is needed on the dance floor."
