PREPARATIONS for a mock battle between Roundheads and Cavaliers were well under way at Turton Tower in July, 1978, despite frequent showers. Amateur Civil War enthusiasts from around the country were gathering to commemorate the 350th anniversary of Humphrey of Chetham becoming Lord of Turton Manor.
