I MAY have missed something, but I have not heard of the existence of an official executive summary of May's enormously long Brexit document.

And yet it is vital that there should be one with copies available in all public libraries and all major bookshops.

If people are to be in a position to accept or reject the government's proposals, it is necessary that they should be in a position to know what they are.

All we have at the moment are wildly varying subjective judgements — there are those who claim it is a good deal and those who claim that it couldn't be worse.

But the general public is not in a position to decide between either claim without an unbiased summary of the whole document.

One cannot expect more than the occasional enthusiast with a good deal of time to spare to read it in full!
