STUDENTS raised more than £3,700 to fund a lunchtime trolley dash around a toy store.

Form representatives from Year 7 of Bolton School Girls’ Division enjoyed a sprint around Smyths Toy Store at Middlebrook on Thursday afternoon accompanied by Sixth Form prefects

The large haul of gifts will now be handed over to Hits Radio’s Mission Christmas Appeal which is collecting presents that will be handed out to less fortunate children across the region.

The money was raised earlier in the term, when all 125 girls in Year 7 undertook a 24 hour sponsored silence.

Caitlin Hurt, aged 12, said: “I am quite chatty so the sponsored silence was really hard. However, we found ways to communicate through notepads, whiteboards and iPads. It was good to know that it was all for a good cause.”

Year 7 Tutor and teacher Miss Samantha Tomlinson said: “The girls appeared on the Hits Radio Breakfast Show earlier in the week and were very accomplished in answering the hosts’ questions.

“They have also been well organised today in the trolley dash.”
