TODAY the town centre welcomes one of the highlights of the year.

Following on from another hugely success Bolton Food and Drink Festival, the Winter Festival returns to Victoria Square as the town really gets into the festive spirit.

This year sees a few changes to previous festivities, including Santa’s Grotto being moved to the Albert Halls and the absence of the giant slide.

The teepee tents which have featured at previous Food and Drink Festivals are once again taking on a foodie theme with bars, refreshments and performances to entertain visitors.

The popular ice rink will welcome skaters of all ages and abilities and is a fun way to spend time between festive meals and shopping.

While the main attractions are in Victoria Square, there is plenty going on across the town.

Tomorrow, the Mayor’s Annual Christmas Fair launches in the Albert Halls, with toys, gifts and crafts on offer.

And it wouldn’t be Christmas without a panto to cheer us all up after a long, hard year. Step in Snow White at the Albert Halls in the first panto since it was refurbished.

The Market Place and Crompton Place shopping centres are also launching their festive programmes to keep visitors entertained.

It is lovely to see families enjoying themselves and shopping local this Christmas.
