AA CAR repair garage has been fined for failing to account for waste it had thrown away.
VIP Auto Centre Ltd, in Deane Road, was visited by Bolton Council enforcement officers in March to inspect the company’s waste transfer notes.
But staff at the firm were unable to provide the necessary paperwork.
The notes, which businesses are required to keep on file for two years, provide legal evidence of waste being properly disposed — including the licence information of carriers taking items away.
After again failing to produce the waste transfer notes at another enforcement visit, the company was issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice, which was not paid.
The firm was then summoned to Bolton Magistrates Court for breaching its legal responsibilities.
Magistrates ordered VIP Auto Centre Ltd to pay a £400 fine, £405 in costs and a £40 victim surcharge.
According to Companies House the business was dissolved on July 31.
Cllr Nick Peel, said: “Without the right paperwork, we have no guarantee that the waste was not dumped in our streets."
“This decision shows businesses have a clear choice, comply with the law or face the financial consequences.”
