COUNCILLORS have vowed to look into claims that a Great Lever street has become a hotspot for crashes and people performing manoeuvres, after three people were injured in a collision on Friday night.

The incident in Higher Swan Lane, happened when a Toyota Prius performed a u-turn in side road before colliding with a BMW.

Three people from the Toyota were hospitalised as a result of the crash, including the rear passenger who suffered head injuries and heavy bleeding.

Following the incident one resident said that "at least 10 cars" perform similar manoeuvres daily.

They added that the issue had been going on for 25 years resulting in many minor crashes, and warned that sign should be displayed to discourage drivers from performing u-turns.

When asked about the issues Ward councillors from Great Lever said that it had not been brought to their attention, and were unaware of any longstanding problems.

Cllr Mohammed Iqbal vowed to look into the issue and to visit residents in Higher Swan Lane to discuss their concerns.

However he noted that the area does have “intermittent” issues with drivers speeding in high powered hire cars.

He said: “Councillors and police are aware that people sometimes hire high powered cars in Great Lever, then speed all over the place. But this is only an intermittent problem. We are very concerned about people speeding in Great Lever. I live in the ward and sometimes at night you can hear these cars speeding.”

Cllr Iqbal asked residents to pass on concerns to councillors and police.
