THE wife of a man who died in a collision in Urmston has paid tribute to him.

Frank Duerden, 79, who was driving a blue Toyota Aygo when it was involved in a collision with a red Ford Transit van in Davyhulme Road, at the junction of Pleasant Drive, in Urmston on Saturday, November 24.

After the collision and while being treated in an ambulance, Mr Duerden fell ill and was taken to hospital with a suspected heart attack, where died three days later.

The Ford Transit driver sustained no injuries.

Mr Duerden’s wife, Vera, said: "Frank was a very hard working man, who loved to gamble on the horses.

“He loved swimming and football and was a lifelong Manchester United supporter.

“It has been a shock since Frank died, especially to his son and grandson, who miss him a lot.

“He was a lovely man and I will miss him greatly. “

A fortnight ago, Phil Shaw of GMP’s serious collision investigation unit, launched an appeal for witnesses, saying: “Anyone who witnessed the collision, saw the vehicles prior to the incident, or has dashcam footage, to get in touch.”
