HARRISON Stokes and Isabella Backhouse were the stars of this year's annual Bolton Primary Schools Cross Country League.

The pair won all four of the competition races to resoundingly take the town's boys' and girls' titles, respectively.

They also led their schools to glory with Harrison's Horwich Parish School and Isabella's Bolton School winning the team championships.

Thirty seven schools took part with more than 370 pupils participating in each of the races which were held every Thursday for four weeks at the end of September and beginning of October at Moss Bank Park.

The course was approximately 1.3k long and consisting of one small lap and one large lap including a hill.

Conor Gettinby of St Thomas of Canterbury was runner-up overall in the boys' individual rankings after finishing second in each of the three races he took part in, with Charlie Parker, of St John The Evangelist School, third overall.

Lucy Pickett finished behind her Bolton School team-mate in second in the girls' overall rankings, with Jennifer Pike from Markland Hill third.

The schools' runners will be back in action again in April at the Bolton Primary Schools Cross Country Championships.
