NO expense was spared in Rosemere Amateur Operatic Society's staging of Gilbert and Sullivan's Utopia Ltd.

Also known as The Flowers of Progress, the extravagant production was staged by the celebrated Bolton theatre company in 1965.

The theatre company, now called as New Rosemere, known for its spectacular Gilbert and Sullivan production, put on the show — telling the story of King Paramount of the south seas island of Utopia who decided his people should adopt all English customs and institutions and inhabitants should become a "company limited".

Utopia Ltd, is performed much less frequently than most other G&S operas, but fans included George Bernard Shaw who was reported to have said: "I enjoyed the score of Utopia more than that of any of the previous Savoy operas."
