A YEAR of green-fingered events supporting the development of a community garden at a high school is set to kick off.

The Derby High School, in Radcliffe Road, will host the Winter Wonderland Makers' Market on December 20, at 5.30pm. It comes as pupils at the school work with parents and staff to create a new outdoor garden.

The school has been given a grant from the Curious Minds charity and the National Lottery for the project.

Assistant head Lynn Provoost, said: "Our students and their families, who have worked so hard to make this project a reality, will undoubtedly feel an immense sense of pride and belonging. The event will bring our community together for an exciting, cultural celebration embracing our community’s talent."
