THE Bolton News’ chief football writer, Marc Iles, has been banned from attending Wanderers’ matches at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Marc will not be granted access to the stadium for home fixtures or pre-match press conferences, a decision taken following his coverage of Wanderers’ recent off-field issues.

The ban, imposed by club chairman Ken Anderson and sent via email to our editors this morning, begins with immediate effect.

Addressing the media this afternoon, manager Phil Parkinson said: “I’ve only just heard, obviously that’s the chairman’s decision.

“I’ll probably be speaking to him later on this afternoon, that’s all I can say on the matter.”

Explaining their reasons for banning Marc, the club said they had concerns over the tone and accuracy of his reporting over a long period of time and said they took issue with a GIF of the Muppets Christmas Carol attached to a tweet he posted this morning about Wanderers' players being paid offensive and amateurish.
