BIN collections in Bolton will be altered over the Christmas and New Year period.

Recycling and refuse will be collected as normal up to and including Christmas Eve, but any bins due to be collected between December 25 and 28 will be pushed back two days.

Bins normally collected on Tuesday, December 25 will be picked up on Thursday, December 27. 

Bins normally collected on Wednesday, December 26 will be picked up on Friday, December 28.

Bins normally collected on Friday, December 28 will be picked up on Sunday, December 30. 

There will be no change to bins due to be collected on New Year's Eve.

Bins normally collected on Wednesday, January 2 will be collected on Thursday, January 3. 

Bins normally collected on Thursday, January 3 will be collected on Friday, January 4. 

Bins normally collected on Friday, January 4 will be collected on Saturday, January 5. 

Residents are also being reminded to recycle Christmas cards, wrapping paper and paper gift bags without glitter in the beige bin.

Bows and ribbon cannot be recycled and need to go in the grey bin, along with polystyrene, plastic pots, tubs and trays.

All food waste such as turkey bones, peelings, tea bags and coffee grinds can go into the food waste container or green bin.

This year, Bolton’s recycling rate has increased to 47 per cent.

Bolton Council’s executive cabinet member for environmental services, Cllr Nick Peel, said: “We appreciate the understanding and co-operation of Bolton residents during the changes to refuse and recycling collection over Christmas and New Year."

Bolton Council will also collect real Christmas trees for a £15 charge.
