ERIC Hyland’s "one-eyed" take on Brexit is in dire need of a contribution to set things straight. (“Brexit will be remembered in disbelief, Letters, December 13).

Whilst I will wholeheartedly agree with him that “Theresa May has to be the 'worst Prime Minister in living memory", there it ends.

What he seems not to realise is that Theresa May is a remainer, like himself, hence the reason why the whole thing has been “shambolic” in the first place.

If the PM had have been a Brexiteer, for example, the whole thing would have been done and dusted long ago.

But if as Mr Hyland states that the Brexit vote won the referendum because the leave campaign overspent, it says a great deal about the case put forward for remaining in the EU.

As the remain campaign backed and funded by the Government spent far more money trying to persuade people to vote remain, than leave spent on their campaign?

And after all that, remain still lost and leave won. At least the leave campaign didn’t ‘overspend’ using taxpayers money, unlike remain?

But, Mr Hyland, what I’m curious about is that if the EU is such a great organisation, a bastion of freedom and democracy, with prosperity, fairness and justice for all its subjects, as claimed by remainers and yourself, then perhaps you may like to engage that self-perceived superior intellect of yours and explain to all us “stupid, bigoted, racist little Englanders who voted to leave,- why it was after all the propaganda, ‘of project fear’ put out by the government and the remain camp?

All the doom and gloom that aeroplanes would no longer be able to fly, foreign holidays would be a thing of the past, global warming would race out of control, diabetics would die because insulin supplies would run out, food supplies would run short and people would starve, and we won’t be able to by Mars bars anymore either!

Why was it then that after all this nonsense and more; a clear majority of voters still voted to “leave”?
