THE famous Flying Scotsman travelled through parts of Bolton this morning.

People gathered at Horwich Parkway station to get a glimpse of the legendary locomotive shortly after 8am.

The steam train set off from Manchester Victoria at 7.33am, embarking on a tour through Bolton and Blackburn before it reaches Carlisle later today.

After stopping in Salford, it passed through Kearsley, Farnworth, Moses Gate and Burnden Junction.

It stopped at Bolton station at 8.03am before departing again at 8.09am.

It then continued through Lostock Junction and Lostock station before reaching Horwich Parkway at 8.17am.

After passing through Blackrod, it continued on through Lancashire and Cumbria, reaching Carlisle at 1.25pm.

On its return leg this evening, the 60103 will travel as far as Carnforth and be taken off the tracks for the rest of the tour.

From Carnforth, the tour will be hauled by a West Coast Railways diesel train until it arrives back at Manchester Victoria.

This means the Flying Scotsman will not be passing through any Bolton stations again this evening.
