DURING the holidays is the perfect opportunity to look at applying to university.

For those who have not already applied the deadline is January 15, to start in 2019.

Going to university is a big commitment so making the right choice is crucial.

Media school ScreenSpace's head of school, Dr Lisette Johnston, has put together some helpful tips for last minute applications.

Dr Johnston says prospective students should research their chosen course, looking at league tables and university websites to see what different courses entail. The same course at separate universities could be very different.

To find out if a university is right for you TheStudentRoom.com can give an idea of what life on campus is like.

University open days are a good way to see if you like a campus and the area, if you will be spend three or four years there. Do not be afraid to call them up with questions to find out more.

Dr Johnston also suggests thinking about your future self and seeing what work experience your course offers or if it is possible to get a year in industry.
