A SERIES of roadworks are expected to cause delays for commuters this week.

Manhole repairs are set to cause a 'high level' of traffic disruption starting from today.

BT engineers will begin working on Bolton Road, Kearsley, to repair the frame of the manhole as well as the cover, which is expected to take until Monday, January 7.

While the work is being completed, two-way signals will be put in place during off-peak hours around the junction with Thomas More Close and Albion Street.

Meanwhile, gas works set to last almost four months began yesterday.

The gas pipe replacement which will be carried out by Cadent, will take place in Halliwell Road, between Eskrick Street and Gladstone Street.

They are estimated to be completed by Thursday, April 25.

There will also be disruption on Back Ewart Street at the junction with Halliwell Road while a new gas main is installed. Work is expected to finish on February 5.

And there are multi-way signals on Laburnum Road in Farnworth while works are carried out on the road on behalf of United Utilities. The work is expected to be completed tomorrow.

Bolton Council have advised motorists to plan their journeys ahead.
