REPORT on good deeds in the community by all means but please leave the specific religion out of the headlines (The Bolton News, January 2).
If you report on a group litter picking, clearing footpaths, etc, do we have to know their religious belief, their marital status or gender?
No! We want know that their activity, whatever it may be, is beneficial to the local community.
If you report on an activity from a school, be it Catholic, Cof E or state school, the headlines aren’t dedicated to that specific religion but to the name of school or the church involved.
Volunteers clearing up Bolton is admirable, as many people do on a daily basis on their perambulations around their area, not headline news.
I assume that your reporters had a ‘tip off’ about the operation, so it was intended as a good public-relations initiative.
Far better it was carried out quietly and without a fuss and commotion and the associated press coverage.
