THIS family-run cafe may not look out of the ordinary but its backstory wouldn't look out of place on the silver screen.

Monte Carlo Cafe, in Chorley Old Road is owned and run by the Haurdic family, who moved to England from war-torn Yugoslavia in 1992.

Selma Haurdic was three years old when her mother and father moved, which was "a very tough time".

She added: "My dad was injured during the war and they people thought he was probably dead, but on my birthday we were radioed through and told he was critical but alive.

"We were eventually taken to Germany, then London and then told we were moving to the north.

"We basically had nothing apart from the clothes we had on and we could not speak English."

25 years after moving to the country, Selma's parents decided to open a cafe in April 2018.

Selma, who also works in a nursery said: "My parents have worked very hard over the years to now open their own little cafe.

"Me and my siblings often help as much as we can ,juggling with our everyday jobs and brother also attending university.

"I am expecting a baby in 13 days so there will be three generations."

The cafe offers all day breakfasts along with a variety of other foods, and they have also recently started doing buffets.

It is open Monday to Saturday between 8 am and 3pm, and between 9.30am and 3.30pm on Sundays.
