PLANS to improve transport in Bolton over the next six years will be unveiled at a meeting next week.

Members of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) are set to sit down and discuss the 2040 Transport Delivery Plan on Friday, January 11, at a regional meeting.

The plan will set out projects expected to take place in Bolton and the nine other Greater Manchester authorities between now and 2025.

It is being produced alongside the controversial Greater Manchester Spatial Framework, which will set out areas of the borough designated for construction and development.

REVEALED: how the revised GM plan for homes and jobs could affect Bolton

Together the two reports aim to tie public transport in with new homes and civic services.

Ultimately, the Delivery Plan is likely to include a series of projects which will build towards the GMCA’s stated goal of having a “fully integrated” transport system by 2040. The plans were first set out following a public consultation run by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) in 2016, with the aim of creating “world class connections that support long-term, sustainable economic growth and access to opportunity for all”.

In the short term, the plan is expected to focus on improving reliability on highways and access to the motorway network, as well as upgrading links to employment, education and training locations.

Public transport is also expected to be a priority, with bus and rail facility improvements, such as waiting rooms and information boards listed as key short term goals in 2016. Full details of the plan will be available next week.
